Magazine Cover/Contents Diary

These are my very first designs for my magazine logo/masthead, ive taken inspiration from the Metal Hammer magazine and experimented with the positioning and look of the word "mayhem" while inside the word "Metal", i will further develop this design and attempt to give it more texture to make it look more unique and original. I may also experiment with contrasting colours such as outlining the word "Mayhem" with a much brighter colour such as yellow, red, blue etc.

Cover & Contents page layouts

These are the templates i have created for both of my magazine covers so i can easier organise and arrange all of the elements i have aswell as making it easier when it comes to assembling these elements in my final version.

And these are the templates for my contents pages that serve the same purpose as my cover templates, making it easier to assemble and give me an idea of what my cover will look like before it is finished.

First Photoshoot

These are some of the best images from my first photoshoot that were primarily for the front cover of my first magazine but i will use some others and incorporate them into my contents page and website to achieve synergy and just use more of my original photos, These ones are unedited and i will show the edited and improved versions when they are complete.

Second Photoshoot

These are the best photos i took from my secondary photoshoot, i think they turned out really well and effectively represent the genre aswell as targeting a different social group, like the first photoshoot, i will also incorporate some of these images into my website.

Layout Changes

Ive made some alterations to my Contents page layouts to account for the middle of the page that would be folded and possibly negatively change how the contents page looks by making text much harder to read and overall less visually appealing.

For this design i switched the contents list to the left side of the double page spread as apposed to being in the middle and the text being altered and potentially stretched or hidden.

In this layout i changed the central contents list, merging the 3 columns into 2, so that there is a gap in the middle for the fold so that no text is hidden or stretched.

Final Images Addition

I added in the final images in the empty slots on my contents pages, i may end up replacing these images with ones i prefer or images i've taken myself. This is my first finished draft of my contents and front cover pages, overall i am happy with how they look but definitely need polishing in areas.
